Trojan Update 9/30/11

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT TO YOUR CHILD’S CATHOLIC EDUCATION.

Achievement Testing: October 3-7 is the week for the Stanford and OLSAT Testing.  Please make sure your son/daughter is on time to school, here every day, and gets enough rest at night to do well on their testing.

Fall Concert: Thursday, October 20 at 7:00, will be the fall music concert.  It will consist of 7th and 8th grade band, 5th -8th grade choir, and the ShowMe Brass Band.  Please join us for an exciting night of musical talent.

Prayer & Yoga

Beginning October 11th, Tuesdays 8 a.m.-9 a.m.
St. Pius Education Building
8 week session, $40 fee

Are you looking for a new prayer experience?  Enjoy yoga or want to try it?  Whether you're a seasoned yogi or a yoga novice, options will be available for all levels.  Instuctor Jill Wondel will be leading us in this full-body practice of prayer.  Spaces are limited.  To register, contact Amy Meystrik, 263-4864 or meystro@mcmsys.com.  For more information about the class, contact Instructor Jill Wondel, jill@prayerandyoga.com, 660-833-4423.  Please bring a yoga mat to class or one can be purchased at the first class.

Basketball:      Girls basketball (7th and 8th grade) will start practice on Thursday, October 6th from 3:30 to 5:00.  They will also practice Friday, October 7th from 3:30 to 5:00.  Boys basketball (7th and 8th grade) will practice Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00.

SCRIP:  The Scrips program is an easy way to make money for our school.  Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount.  Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue.  We submit orders on Mondays and the cards are returned to you by Friday.  New this year:  We are also keeping a limited number of cards available from local merchants and may be purchased and taken immediately.  We have denominations for Westlake's Ace Hardware, Amazon.com, Lowe's, Pizza Hut, Subway and Wal-Mart available immediately.

Best Choice Labels:  St. Pius will begin collecting Best Choice Labels.  For many years we have collected Box Tops for Education.  We have also recently found that Best Choice has a Save-A-Label program.  If you shop at Bratchers they carry Best Choice products.  Please save the UPC label which states "Best Choice" above the UPC code.  UPC codes are accepted for nearly every Best Choice product except cans or milk labels.  Turning these labels in is just another way to support your child's education at St. Pius X School.Thank you.

Absences:  This is just a reminder that if your child is absent from school you must call the school to let us know he/she will not be here.  You MUST also follow up the absence with a hand-written note.

Amazon.com:We have a link on our school website now for amazon.com.  Please go to st-pius.com and click on supporters and then fundraisers.  If you click on the amazon link you will be directed to their homepage.  Any purchases you make after following that link will earn St. Pius X at least 4% of the purchase.
Leaving School during the School Day:  If your child has a doctor/dentist appointment that requires him/her to leave school it is imperative that you send a note the day of the appointment.  It is better to send a note at least 1 day in advance.  Teachers need to be aware of absences ahead of time when possible so that students can be given the work to make up.  While we understand that sometimes things come up last minute, we ask that you respect the educational process enough to let us know ahead of time when your child will be absent.

Nurse Notes:If your child has already been to see the nurse for Tylenol and or Advil then you probably need to send their own supply so that they can have it for the rest of the year.

On October 27th, the day of Parent-Teacher Conferences, the Health Department will be coming to offer flu shots or mist at a cost of $20 per person.  They will file Medicaid, medicare, HealthLink, or United Health Care if you have your insurance card with you.  They will be here from 3:00 to 6:00 that evening.  There is no need to pre-register for this.  You are welcome to show up.  Open to all members of the school and parish.

Box Tops for Education:  Our school collects Box Tops for Education.  This is a simple, easy way to earn much needed money for things we could not normally afford.  On our website there is a link to sign up to win 500,000 box tops.  This would amount to $50,000 dollars for our school.  There are also several other opportunities for smaller amounts of Box Tops.  You will also be able to find coupons for Box Tops products.  To get to a link for signing up for Box Tops please go to www.st-pius.com, click on supporters, then fundraisers and follow the link.
